Central Asia and Information and Communication Technology (www.uw.edu) |
| Objective: |
The CAICT program at the University of Washington needed a re-evaluation and rebuild of an existing website. Over the years their program and funding has grown, and the site they used to disseminate information had grown cumbersome and confusing. Information was difficult to find and unorganized. CAICT needed an information rich site that downloads quickly for those researchers using dial-up in Central Asia while making the site feel up-to-date. |
| Solution: |
A simple 2-column layout clearly delineates information. By moving the menu to the top, more screen real estate is available for content. On-site photographs were optimized and used to give visitors a sense of the project. Wiki, weblog, and php technologies were used to keep costs low and deliver advanced functionality. |
| Results: |
The redesign brought the CAICT website into ADA compliance and reduced the file sizes by 35-75%. The homepage automatically updates whenever a member enters new information, giving the site a cared-for feel. |
